In 2016, our family relocated to Johannesburg, and I decided to make a major career shift that would allow me to work from home. Previously, I managed the HR department for our gym equipment company, coached CrossFit, and ran a successful Bootcamp-for-Moms program in Durbanville. I’ve been in the health and fitness space since 2003, but back then, my nutrition recommendations followed the traditional low-fat, fat-free diet approach.

 

I discovered low-carb nutrition in 2014 when I stumbled across The Primal Blueprint by Mark Sisson. Around the same time, The Banting Diet became popular in South Africa. We even had the privilege of hosting the renowned Prof. Tim Noakes at our facility in Durbanville!

 

Intrigued by the science, I dove headfirst into researching the keto diet. I read every book and resource I could find from some of the most knowledgeable authorities in the field of keto and low-carb nutrition. This included the work of Dr. Dominic D’Agostino, Dr. Rhonda Patrick, Patricia Daly, Jimmy Moore, Dr. Jason Fung, Drs. Stephen Phinney and Jeff Volek, Maria Emmerich, and Vicky de Beer.

 

Within just three months of starting a strict keto diet, I experienced incredible transformations. For the first time in my life, my energy levels were remarkably consistent throughout the day. I no longer suffered from energy crashes, blood sugar dips with jitters, or migraines! I even achieved some of my best 5K running times.

 

These changes were undeniable. The food was delicious! I was sold! If just a few short months on keto could make such major changes for me, I knew it could do the same for others too.

Since then, I have chosen to specialize exclusively in low-carb and keto nutrition because I’ve seen how, when implemented correctly, it can transform not just people’s health but also their understanding of food and nutrition. I use keto as a tool to help clients rethink their approach to eating and gain a deeper understanding of their metabolism. This education is invaluable, especially as we age and the effects of years of flawed nutritional approaches start to show. I’ve worked one-on-one with hundreds of individuals, guiding them with a personalized approach to use keto principles effectively to achieve their unique health goals.

I've had the honor of being on two episodes of KykNet's Slank program with Leandri Du Rand and have written some articles for KykNet on fat and sugar in our diets. Some other media where I've been featured include Witsvuvuzela, YFM Radio and Lose It magazine. I was also honored to be interviewed by Nafeesa Dangor for Salaamedia in a comprehensive 30-minute discussion on the Ketogenic Diet.
